As New Yorkers navigate another frigid winter, Visit California has partnered with the experiential, family-focused brand CAMP to offer a glimmer of sunshine from the Golden State.
As of March 1, CAMP’s 5th Avenue flagship location has been transformed into a mini-California getaway showcasing the state’s robust offerings, from delicious culinary delights to breathtaking scenery, along with inspiration for planning a California family getaway. The two-month activation will run through the end of April as CAMP moves west, launching its first store in Los Angeles this spring.
“California is the ultimate place for families to explore,” says Visit California President and CEO Caroline Beteta. “CAMP’s innovative approach to creative immersive experiences for children and their families is a true embodiment of California’s pioneering spirit, and an excellent partner in bringing the Golden State lifestyle to the Big Apple.”
From STEM-filled interactive museums to wondrous national parks to world-renowned zoos and aquariums, the Golden State will stimulate and engage your children like no other destination. And whether you’re arranging an epic family road trip or simply deciding which theme parks to experience first, kids love to participate in the planning process.
And that’s where CAMP fits in. The New York City activation will not only entertain young ones—it will also inspire them to dream up a fabulous California getaway.
“We can’t wait for New Yorkers to get a taste of California’s wonders in CAMP’s flagship location,” Beteta says, “and be inspired to come experience it on vacation.”
Through the end of April, guests will be greeted by a “California Cafe” where families can nosh on healthy Golden State snacks and fun flavors of ice cream including Yose-Minty, Vanil-LA-LA-Land, Cocoafornia, and more.
On March 11, Food Network celebrity chef and Los Angeles native Jet Tila will welcome visitors to CAMP, hosting a special event for families with crafts, snacks, and sushi tutorials (Tila is the chef who helped create the world’s biggest California roll).
In addition to the Food Network star power, Visit California and CAMP have partnered with California-based Sunnie and its cofounders, Katy Tucker and Lisette Howard, to offer busy families with kids a complimentary Sunnie Taco Dipper with fresh guacamole, shredded mozzarella, and cassava flaxseed crackers that captures the essence of the state in every bite.
Families will also encounter a redwood forest in the middle of Manhattan, a place for kids to zoom around a skateboard track, and secret California landmarks hidden throughout the store. Best of all, families who visit the store can enter to win a dream trip for four to explore California through a sweepstakes.
