Cielito Lindo - East LA
E-23 Olvera St, Los AngelesFor nearly 100 years, the humble taco has captured America’s hearts and many historians trace its Californian roots to Cielito Lindo in East Los Angeles. This tiny stall, which opens at 9 am, has been serving rolled tacos smothered in avocado sauce since 1934. Not much has changed since Aurora Guerrero introduced the flavours of her native Zacatecas to Olvera Street. The shop now has running water—for years the family cooked at home and carried the tortillas in on a tram each morning. But the owners (Guerrero's descendants) and the flavours (muy auténtico) remain the same.
