The show garnered six Golden Globes nominations, including best-acting nods for stars Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. Also, after much speculation, the show—based on a novel by Liane Moriarty, and originally meant to be a limited series—will return for a second season. Entertainment Weekly reports that while the second season will have a different director (Andrea Arnold instead of Jean-Marc Vallée), it will feature the same screenwriter (David E. Kelley), as well as the actresses who portrayed the pull-no-punches, latte-drinking, gorgeous-home-residing characters of Monterey—including Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, and Zoë Kravitz.
We’re hoping season two features more Monterey and Big Sur locations, too, which was one part of what made the show so addictive—from Bixby Bridge in the opening credits to Del Monte Beach, where Shailene Woodley’s character runs. In the meantime, sip your own latte and stroll Fisherman’s Wharf (where the ladies’ fictional coffee house is) and see if you can find Tom the Barista, perhaps the most trusted man in this delightfully fictionalized version of mellow Monterey.
Also, if you haven’t seen it yet, HBO.com will let you watch the first season for free; fans meanwhile, can take See Monterey’s app walking tour of series locations. The Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton on January 7.
