Sleep in a shiny silver bullet at the Airstream and luxury-tent hotel AutoCamp. The sleek trailers at these California resorts may have lots of throwback charm, but they’re also fully outfitted with kitchens, nice linens, and typically a fire pit and a few Adirondack chairs outside. Each AutoCamp in California has its own distinctive ambience, and site-specific amenities.
AutoCamp Russian River, Sonoma County
At the Russian River location in Sonoma County, the lodging options include 10 luxury safari tents as well as 20 Airstreams, each outfitted with modern furnishings and private outdoor space. Here, you can walk down to the Russian River to swim or canoe, play lawn games, or lounge by a fire pit inside or outside the midcentury-modern-style clubhouse. The 3,000-square-foot building also offers a store to stock up on snacks and local beer and wine, along with a communal lounge area and guest services desk. The property is located near the town of Guerneville and provides access to nearby redwood groves and Sonoma Coast attractions.
AutoCamp Yosemite
Opened in 2019, AutoCamp Yosemite is the largest and most remote site, near the historic mountain town of Mariposa. Guests can enjoy many of the same amenities, plus a heated pool, midcentury modern clubhouse, and a pond with a paddleboat and canoe. Yosemite National Park is about 40 miles away and accessible via a daily shuttle. Onsite offerings also include a grab-and-go café program, a hot cocoa bar, activities such as rock painting, yoga, meditation sessions, and arts 'n' crafts for kids, as well as as guided hikes and evening fire gatherings, depending on the season.
AutoCamp Joshua Tree
AutoCamp Joshua Tree, located about 10 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, features 55 units that radiate out from its Quonset hut–inspired clubhouse and is every bit as luxurious as the others but several desert-friendly features set it apart. Have a drink at the open-air bar outfitted with misting fans while you take in the ancient beauty of the landscape. Everything here has been designed to have minimal environmental impact, from low-water-use technology to a heavy reliance on solar power. And it’s all close to top-notch mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, guided ATV tours, falconry experiences, and cool attractions such as Pioneertown.
AutoCamp Sequoia
AutoCamp Sequoia, in the Sierra Nevada foothills near the town of Three Rivers, has a mix of custom Airstream suites, canvas tent accommodations, cabins, and accessible units, each designed with private outdoor space and a firepit. A midcentury modern–inspired clubhouse serves as the camp's social hub, with a general store, lounge seating, and guest services. Take a swim in the seasonal outdoor pool, kick back beside the fire areas, or set out on a hike or river adventure in the Kaweah amidst towering redwoods. A short drive away is Sequoia National Park with giant sequoia groves—the General Sherman among them—and mountain views that make it one of the most celebrated national parks in the country.
