LEGOLAND California announces a new zone with original rides, attractions, and meet-and-greets

Posted 4 years agoby Katrina Hunt

Everything is increasingly awesome at San Diego County’s LEGOLAND California, as the theme park just announced a major new addition to the park coming in 2020: a whole zone devoted to the two LEGO movies and its characters.

The centerpiece of the new LEGO Movie World will be Masters of Flight, a full-dome-screen simulated ride that seats you on Emmet’s triple-decker flying couch as you zoom over the movies’ locales such as Middle Zealand, Cloud Cuckoo Land, Pirates Cove, and Outer Space.

Elsewhere in LEGO Movie World, you can ride a new carousel, take a spin on the tower-style Unikitty’s Disco Drop, or walk the streets of the movie’s Bricksburg—climbing the playground-style Benny’s Play Ship or exploring Emmet’s Super Suite apartment. And there will no doubt be chances for selfies with strolling characters like Emmet, Lucy (aka Wyldstyle), Unikitty, and Benny.

There’s no set date for the new zone’s debut, but it should open sometime in 2020, located in the area that used to be home to Duplo Playtown (which was recently relocated to another part of the Carlsbad park). In the meantime, you can still take advantage of a cool perk for the theme park’s 20th birthday in 2019: free admission for any kid age 12 or under on his or her birthday.
