We partnered with award-winning podcaster and author Emma Gannon to explore the Golden State on her California Innovation Series. During her time in California, Emma met some of the state’s most innovative pioneers and dreamers, from pro skateboarders to scientists.
In a world of multi-hyphenated people – a topic Emma touches upon in her latest book - The Multi-Hyphen Method - it seemed only fitting that while in West Hollywood she interviewed fellow podcast host and Californian activist Erica Williams Simon. Erica is best known for her podcast The Call and is author of the forthcoming book You Deserve the Truth. In the book she talks about her time in a National Civil and Human Rights Organisation and her work in the Clinton administration building policy campaigns around issues that mattered to young people, such as climate change and education reform.
Together they discuss everything from growing up in California to family life, personal identity, what it takes to be a change-maker, and most importantly, how to avoid activist burnout.
