Plan Your Trip: SeaWorld San Diego

Amazing undersea attractions, thrilling rides, and interactive animal shows

From swooshing and swooping rides to interactive animal experiences, SeaWorld San Diego truly makes a big, big splash. Find out why this park is about a lot more than just your typical theme park fun.

What to Expect at SeaWorld San Diego

Located just off San Diego’s Mission Bay, the park offers a variety of ways to learn about and celebrate marine life. Dive into a deep-sea adventure in the Ocean Explorer area to explore children's rides and unique aquariums. See (and touch) harmless rays and sharks, or just be inspired by the killer whales at the Orca Encounter, featuring orcas breaching, spouting, and generally acting naturally in the water, against the backdrop of an infinity screen showing a documentary-style presentation with interesting facts about the majestic mammals. Or, take one of the park’s exclusive tours and you can get up-close encounters with resident dolphins, sea lions, penguins, or gentle beluga whales, also known as the “canaries of the sea.”

Tours at SeaWorld San Diego

Experience marine animals like you never have before through a variety of up-close animal encounters designed to inspire and educate. Guests can interact with dolphins, meet rescued sea otters, and go behind the scenes with animal care specialists to learn about the park’s commitment to conservation and rehabilitation. Many of the animals you’ll meet have been rescued and deemed non-releasable, offering a rare opportunity to connect with species that rarely—at least intentionally—cross paths with human beings.

Rides at SeaWorld San Diego

Climb aboard a host of rides, too—from mild to wild, there’s something for everyone. If you’ve got small kids in your crew, head to the Rescue Jr. area, with its animal-rescue-themed rides, splash zone, and real rescue vehicles on display; bigger kids, meanwhile, will beeline for the flume ride Journey to Atlantis and the park’s latest addition, Arctic Rescue, where you’ll mount a simulated snowmobile and go on a mission at speeds up to 40 mph to save an arctic animal in distress.

For serious thrill seekers, Manta, a high-tech, double-launch coaster twists and dives like a ray, and Emperor—inspired by the deep-diving emperor penguin—dives 14 stories straight down to reach speeds of 60 mph, and is the tallest, fastest, longest (and only floorless) dive coaster in the state.

When Is SeaWorld San Diego Open?

SeaWorld San Diego is open year-round, but operating hours vary considerably by season, day of the week, and special events. During quieter periods of the year (such as late winter months), the park often operates from approximately 10 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m., while weekends, holidays, and summer dates frequently feature extended hours stretching into the evening.

Seasonal celebrations such as Summer Spectacular, Halloween events, and the Christmas Celebration may also include additional nighttime entertainment and longer operating schedules. Because hours can change throughout the year, visitors should check SeaWorld’s online calendar before their visit for the most up-to-date opening and closing times, show schedules, and attraction availability.
