Extra Time: What to Do With Six Hours in LA

Extra Time: What to Do With Six Hours in LA

Criss cross the city for six hours of fun in Los Angeles

Whether you have a long layover or just some free time after the big tournament, getting a few hours to fill in Los Angeles is a special gift—and we have the perfect itinerary to help plan your L.A. day.

The “Extra Time” team was tasked with taking six hours of unscheduled free time and plotting out a fantastic Los Angeles itinerary. Their goals? To meet good people, eat good food, and find something active to do.

Find out what happened when two locals traveled across the city from Downtown to Venice Beach in search of fun.

Grab a drink and catch a game at Tom’s Watch Bar, Downtown Los Angeles

The biggest sports fans demand the biggest sports bar, and none are larger or boast more TVs than Tom’s Watch Bar, located just steps away from Crypto.com Arena

The drink options here are equally abundant, with more than 100 beer, wine, and cocktail varieties on the menu. And come hungry—the execution of the appetizers really elevates Tom’s offerings from the usual barfare. Grab a sampling of cheese curds, crispy dill pickles, or loaded fries, all perfect for sports snacking.

Skate to victory with the Derby Dolls, Vernon

Get a dose of high-octane fun at Los Angeles' premier, full-contact game on wheels. Located in Vernon, just 15 minutes south of Downtown Los Angeles, Derby Dolls has been cruising and bruising for more than 25 years and remains L.A.'s one and only banked-track roller derby. Try to keep up as players—consisting of jammers, blockers, and a designated pivot—hurl around a rink at top speed, throwing elbows and scoring points along the way.

Looking to get in on the thrill? For just $15, you can enroll in one of the league’s Derby Por Vida skate classes, available for folks of all skill levels.

Join a pickup game in Venice Beach

For a real California experience, step into a game of pickup basketball at the Venice Beach Basketball Courts. Featured in Spike Lee’s White Men Can’t Jump, these courts are a defining part of this SoCal beach town’s thriving sports scene. Made up of four full-length courts (three regulation and one stadium-sized),. Watch courtside with the ocean in full view, or get in on the action—all skill levels are welcome.

Hit the Venice fitness sweet spot with a visit to Muscle Beach, followed by some beach volleyball—or just watch surfers do their thing.

Enjoy cocktails and ocean views at Kassi Rooftop, Venice Beach

Toast the end of the day by witnessing the perfect sunset over the Pacific Ocean at the best rooftop perch in Venice, Kassi Rooftop. The open oasis atop the Erwin Hotel offers an unparalleled view of the beach. Head over for golden-hour cocktails, and sample their Greek-inspired bites including flatbread, dips, and kabobs. Reservations are recommended to secure a spot.

Taste al pastor tacos at Leo’s Taco Truck, multiple locations

End your evening right with a glorious taco from this much-loved food truck. Leo’s is best known for its street-style al pastor tacos straight from the culinary traditions of Oaxaca. Grab a few and toss in Leo’s signature torta for an unforgettable meal. Located across the city and open until the wee hours of the night, look for the colorful truck (often in bright orange) and line of hungry diners.
