Stop 1

Hotel del Coronado, Curio Collection by Hilton

1500 Orange Ave, Coronado

Start your trip at a seaside classic. The charming island community of Coronado is just a short drive from the San Diego airport, and the town’s heart has long been the Hotel del Coronado, part of the Hilton Curio collection. The hotel’s history stretches back to 1888, when it was one of the first hotels with electricity and an elevator. Since then, this National Historic Landmark with Queen Anne–style red turrets has hosted presidents, movie stars, and even played a role in the Marilyn Monroe movie Some Like it Hot. Guests continue to be treated as royalty with a variety of choices of activities and accommodations from the beachside Cabanas building, the towers known as The Views, or the villas of the Beach Village, featuring private patios and balconies overlooking the Pacific with access to secluded pools. Thanks to a $400 million renovation project completed in 2021, this California legend now features revitalized guest rooms, reimagined restaurants, and a shimmering new pool.

Downtown San Diego is just a 15-minute drive away, along with the nearby San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park. But you can’t go wrong staying put at “The Del,” either. Lounge by the pool or on the beach, join the mermaid fitness class, or get a massage at the spa. The friendly waves off Coronado also make a great place to take a surfing lesson.

Stop 2

La Quinta Resort & Club, a Waldorf Astoria Resort

49–499 Eisenhower Drive, La Quinta

Head northeast from San Diego to the Greater Palm Springs area, where your definition of “sports” can include tennis, golf, shopping, or lounging by the pool. The La Quinta Resort & Club takes its role as a desert oasis quite seriously. After all, this jewel in Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria collection features 41 magnificent pools within its manicured grounds. The 781-room resort dates back to 1926 and has plenty of stories to tell: For instance, this is reportedly where Frank Capra wrote It’s a Wonderful Life. Anyone can feel like an A-lister here, thanks to the five championship golf courses, the spa, tennis courts, and easy access to shopping, from Old Old Town La Quinta to Palm Desert’s El Paseo. The resort also makes an elegant base camp for desert hikes, including the 5-mile Cove to Lake Trail, or the challenging, 7.5-mile Boo Hoff Trail.

Stop 3

Hilton Anaheim – Disneyland® Resort

777 W Convention Way, Anaheim

Drive west from the desert to Orange County, and the über-family-friendly hub of  Anaheim. Scoring a centrally located place to stay is key to making the most of a few days here, and the Hilton Anaheim – Disneyland® Resort is located just one mile from the gates of Disneyland® Resort. You can either walk to the parks from your hotel or catch the no-hassle shuttle that picks you up right outside the lobby. The Hilton Anaheim is a Disneyland® Resort Good Neighbor hotel, and it is also one of the Southern California hotels where guests who book their special offer will have the opportunity to save on single-day and multi-day Disneyland® Resort Park Hopper tickets. The kid-friendly hotel has two pools, including one just for grownups who are ready for a little downtime. The shops, eateries, and public art of the Anaheim GardenWalk are next door, while the vibrant dining scene at the Anaheim Packing District is a short drive away.

Stop 4

Hampton Inn & Suites Los Angeles/Hollywood

1133 Vine Street, Los Angeles

Head into the heart of Los Angeles and start exploring its most iconic sights. The Hampton Inn & Suites Los Angeles/Hollywood, right off Santa Monica Boulevard, makes an excellent launchpad, since it’s within walking distance of  the Hollywood Walk of Fame, TCL Chinese Theatre, and the cult favorite Hollywood Forever Cemetery. A Metro Rail station is also right here, so you can hop on the train to visit Universal Studios Hollywood, or even head into downtown L.A.  For a great dinner steeped in Tinseltown history, go to Musso & Frank Grill, which has been frequented by movie-star types since Charlie Chaplin was regular. The hotel offers a laidback base camp, too, thanks to a heated outdoor pool that will let you soak up the rays.

Stop 5

Embassy Suites by Hilton Mandalay Bay

2101 Mandalay Beach Road, Oxnard

Start your scenic trip north along the Central Coast, stopping for a day or two in Oxnard, a Ventura County town offering easy access to Channel Islands National Park and mellow outdoor fun. Staying at the AAA Four Diamond Embassy Suites by Hilton Mandalay Bay puts you just a few minutes from Channel Islands Harbor, where you can take day trips to the national park, go whale watching, or even try parasailing. The hotel sits right on Mandalay Beach, where you can rent bikes to pedal down the beachside path just steps away. Then sample Oxnard’s other beaches for lounging, kayaking, or surfing—Silver Strand Beach, for instance, is considered one of the world’s best for catching a wave.

This location also provides easy access to Ventura County’s wine and craft beer scene, such as Anacapa Brewing in Ventura, or Oxnard’s Herzog Wine Cellars, the nation’s largest producer of kosher wine.

Stop 6

Hilton San Francisco Financial District

750 Kearny Street, San Francisco

You could fill a day with the showstopping views of the Central Coast along Highway 101, especially if you add a detour along Highway 1. You’ll finish the day in the heart of downtown San Francisco. There, the Hilton San Francisco Financial District awaits, offering panoramic views of the city’s many highlights. Want a specific kind of view from your bed? Choose a Premium City View room to see the skyline, or a Premium Bay View room for post-worthy shots of Alcatraz and San Francisco Bay. Outside the hotel’s front door, you’re within easy walking distance of Chinatown and the Italian restaurants of North Beach (don’t miss iconic bookstore City Lights) as well as Union Square and the always delightful Ferry Building Marketplace.

Stop 7

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sonoma Wine Country

One Doubletree Drive, Rohnert Park

Finish your trip with two more icons: First, drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and then head into Sonoma County for some world-class wine tasting. The Mediterranean-style DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sonoma Wine Country offers easy access for tastings in the area, including the Russian River Valley and more than a dozen other wine AVAs in Sonoma County. Try the Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs at MacRostie Winery, or the Sauvignon Blancs and Merlots of Matanzas Creek Winery. Or, dabble in the local craft-beer scene: the acclaimed Russian River Brewing Company has locations in both Santa Rosa and Windsor, and Bear Republic Brewing Co. is a short walk from the hotel.

Between tastings, kick back by the hotel pool, play a round of golf next door at the Foxtail Golf Club, or conduct your own wine tasting on your room’s balcony or lanai.
