Highway 1 Closure: Road repairs from winter storm damage that closed a small section of Highway 1 in Monterey County are scheduled to be completed by April 30. Until then, Big Sur remains open and accessible from Monterey County in the north, and northern San Luis Obispo County beach communities are accessible from the south. Find alternate routes and open businesses and learn the best ways to complete the coastal road trip during the closure at the Visit SLO CAL and the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau websites.

Coronavirus: With one of the nation’s highest vaccination rates and lowest case rates, nearly all of California is open to welcome visitors. All restrictions except those for conventions of more than 5,000 attendees are scheduled to lift statewide on June 15. California has issued a travel advisory that recommends caution and suggests self-quarantines for visitors from out of state and Californians returning to the state, but those steps are not mandatory. Public health officials have directed everyone in California to continue to wear face coverings in congested indoor and outdoor situations.

For more guidance, here is a collection of California’s local and regional tourism offices.
