Tucked in the mountains of East San Diego County, the little town of Julian is famous for its apples—and plenty of apple pie. Its nod to Restaurant Month thinks outside the pie, however: Sweet and Savory in Julian offers a month’s worth of precursors to dessert. One participating restaurant, Jeremy's on the Hill, focuses on seasonal, organic California cuisine—like steaks and seafood, burgers, salads and—well, dessert. All over town, more participants will offer family dining specials, wine pairing events, and meet- the-chef (or roaster) events. There’s also a kids’ recipe contest, where winners can build a pizza and have it featured on the menu.
