Oakdale Rodeo

April 11–12, 2026

In the “Cowboy Capital of the World,” people take their rodeo seriously. And the Central Valley’s Oakdale Rodeo is like a local World Series and Super Bowl rolled into one. Hosted annually at the Oakdale Rodeo Grounds during the second weekend in April, the event is a family-friendly celebration that pays homage to the town’s rich Western heritage.

What is the Oakdale Rodeo?

Dating back to 1946, this Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) event in Oakdale has evolved into a weekend-long round-up with around 10 events—including a parade through town on Saturday with classic cars and live bands. The event takes place at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds, drawing top competitors in classic contests such as team roping, barrel racing, and steer roping.

During the weekend, the Queen’s Coronation Oakdale crowns the rodeo’s newest royalty, who earn that distinction through competitions including speech and horsemanship. Other events include PRCA rodeo performances and the Saturday night rodeo dance, a 21-and-over party with live music, dancing, and drinks.

Where to Stay During the Oakdale Rodeo

Hotel options in Oakdale include chains such as a Best Western Plus, Holiday Inn Express, and Motel 6 near the rodeo grounds, while the boutique Oakdale Holiday Motel offers local charm as well as a complimentary continental breakfast. If you like to camp, book a campsite at The Valley Oak Campground, which provides nearby access to the event, or check out Horseshoe Road to post up next to the Stanislaus River.

More Things to Do While Attending the Oakdale Rodeo

Explore the Central Valley’s Western traditions at the Oakdale Cowboy Museum, which displays rodeo memorabilia, saddles, and a barbed wire collection. And since nothing goes better with rodeo than a cold beer, wet your whistle with an Oakdale-brewed craft IPA at Last Call Brewing Company and Dying Breed Brewing.

There's plenty to eat in town, too. “Reata” means lariat in Spanish, and Reata on Third ropes in regulars to its beautiful contemporary Western interior with everything from ahi poke nachos to a juicy filet mignon. For a swanky night out, feast on elevated dishes like surf and turf at Bistro 120.

With California’s Gold Country in its backyard, Oakdale is also a great home base for exploring the Sierra Nevada foothills. Try river rafting or kayaking in the Knights Ferry Recreation Area, or trek a bit farther inland to visit Gold Rush towns such as Murphys and Jamestown, home to wine tasting rooms and Railtown 1897 State Historic Park.
