Go back in time to the birthplace of California.
In 1769, in what is now Old Town San Diego, Father Junipero Serra established the first mission in a chain of 21 throughout California. Today, Old Town Historic State Park offers a look back at the past with 17 museums and historical sites. The surrounding streets offer quaint boutiques, theaters, art galleries and some of the best Mexican food this side of the border. Old Town is also home to the haunted Whaley House, topping Travel Channel's list of America’s most haunted houses.
Take some time and explore Old Town by trolley on an Old Town Trolley Tour. The Old Town Trolley offers a fun and entertaining tour of the city. From Old Town to the Embarcadero, through Downtown and over the bridge to Coronado, the Trolley provides on and off privileges at 11 different stops. Old Town also features many great Mexican food throughout the area. Located in the heart of Old Town are the Old Town Mexican Café and Café Coyote. Both offer home-made tortillas, authentic food and great margaritas. And for the tequila connoisseur, try the El Agave Tequileria featuring nearly 2,000 types of tequilas. And if you're into shopping, Bazaar del Mundo, Fiesta de Reyes, the Old Town Market and the SOHO Museum Shop are just a few of the fun places to shop in Old Town.
