Revel in the glories of the ancient world in Malibu’s most spectacular museum Classical art, Roman architecture, and elegant gardens all spring to life, along with the splendors of past cultures, at the glorious Getty Villa You’ll find some of the world’s most impressive Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities among the Getty’s collection of 44,000 works. Highlights include the Lansdowne Herakles sculpture, which is displayed in a small chamber with a beautiful inlaid marble floor, and the Green bronze Victorious Youth, which is housed in a special low-humidity gallery to preserve its exquisite artistry. Based on Villa de Papiri, a Roman House built in the 1st Century, the Getty Villa first opened in the 1970s. Later, it underwent a massive, 8-year renovation and reopened in 2006. During that time, the Villa refocused its collection exclusively on antiquities (other works were moved to The Getty Museum sister facility in Brentwood). And oh yes, admission is free for everyone. |
