Let the world-famous killer whale and friends delight and entertain you.

Explorer’s Reef™ immediately immerses SeaWorld park guests into an undersea oasis. This arrival experience was inspired by waves crashing over a coral reef, as well as up-close encounters with marine life. Visitors enter the park beneath an immense wave sculpture that is nearly 30 feet tall and 100 feet long. Next, they connect immediately with the sea through multiple touch pools featuring shark pups, rays, skates and delicate little cleaner fish they can reach in and touch. Encompassing more than three acres, Explorer’s Reef also includes innovative retail and culinary opportunities for guests.

Start the day off right, with a jazzed up killer whale show – One Ocean – where the message that we are all part of one world and can all make a difference is mixed with thrilling, high-energy antics from Shamu and friends. But be warned (when SeaWorld employees remind you, listen to them), if you sit anywhere near the first 16 rows, you will get wet! At night, during Summer Nights , the Shamu show transforms into a rock ‘n’ roll killer whale extravaganza with a dizzying light show.

But Killer Whales aren’t the only inhabitants of SeaWorld. The park is home to dolphins, sea lions, tidepools, the fun Pets Rule show, sharks, penguins and the turtles of Turtle Reef , with its amazing 280,000-gallon aquarium.

For some animated animal fun, check out Madagascar Live! Operation: Vacation , an original live musical show featuring the characters from DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc.’s beloved “Madagascar” franchise. This 20-minute musical show follows the antics of Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, King Julien, Mort and the penguins during their vacation adventure. Madagascar Live! Operation: Vacation shows on weekends at SeaWorld’s Mission Bay Theater.

You will also have the rare chance to slip on a wet suit (the water is 55 degrees) and interact with beluga whales (for an additional price) at The Beluga Interaction Program . This program includes a behind-the-scenes tour where you see walruses, seals and polar bears. For information, call the park or visit the SeaWorld website.

If you are looking for some thrills, look no further than Manta , a double-launch multi-media coaster. Shaped like a giant manta ray, the ride is designed to make you feel like you are the ray…soaring, twisting and diving. After the ride, go further into the world of rays at the 100,000-gallon aquarium. The best part, in a shallow lagoon you can reach in and touch live California bat rays.

Inside tip: Don’t miss SeaWorld’s All Day Dining Deal , which allows you to pay once and dine all day at the park’s major eateries.
