Abbot Kinney Boulevard has long been home to vintage furniture and a certain artsy hippy aesthetic. But of late, the boulevard has gone upscale with a slew of design-minded shops. Easily walkable (most of the stores are located along a mile-long strip), you’ll find everything from bent-cedar bowls and hand-designed walnut stools to first-edition books and vintage abalone ice buckets.

Stop in at stores like Tortoise, Equator Books, Heist, and Happy at the Beach. Relax in a cafe and check out the trendy clothes on the shoppers parading on the sidewalk. Stroll all the way to the end of the route to wander along Venice Beach--another scene altogether.
