California Dreamland Visionary
Liz Phair – Singer/Songwriter
Getting your name and accomplishments added to any list of “greats” is pretty cool, but when your work makes it onto Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”—well, that is way, way cool. Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Liz Phair nabbed that distinction for her 1993 debut album, Exile in Guyville, a collection of songs that one reviewer noted “spoke for the uncertainties facing a new generation of women, struggling to find a balance between sexual confidence and romance, between independence and isolation.” The seminal album firmly placed Phair in the big leagues of music influencers, with a songbook and style that has evolved with each album.
Now, surrounded by the rich and diverse pool of creative talent based in California, Phair continues develop her unique sound, with many new songs appearing in original soundtracks for television and movies. She has performed on many shows, including The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Phair is currently working on a new record, writing a novel, and living the California lifestyle by learning to surf.
