Unplug and recharge on a day visit or longer stay
And that is exactly what you will do at the Tassajara Zen Mountain Center , a uniquely remote meditation and relaxation venue that lies outside the cell phone grid. At this graceful cluster of simple accommodations in the rugged Ventana Wilderness Area, inland from Big Sur, your everyday electronic tethers will have no more value than the sound of one hand clapping.
Guests are welcome to visit the center from roughly late April to early September. Day visitors can soak in the center’s natural hot springs, get a massage, have some quiet time in the zendo (meditation space), walk peaceful trails, or just sit by the pretty creek. Gourmet vegetarian lunch (reservations only) is served in the dining room overlooking the creek; to-go picnics can also be ordered in advance. For longer stays, consider one of the center’s retreats; choose from yoga, tai chi, meditation, personal growth, cooking, gardening, nature, or a combination of practices. Or simply book a night in a room or rustic cabin, turn off the noise, and relax.
