La Jolla Shores has to be one of the ritziest locations in California to learn how to surf.
If you don’t have the right bathing suit for catching a wave along the mile-long, white-sand beach of La Jolla Shores, no worries; there are plenty of boutiques in town where you can nab a hot bikini or stylin’ pair of surf shorts. Known for one of the gentlest wave breaks along the San Diego coast, La Jolla Shores makes a great spot to take a beginner lesson from a quality surf school or instructor. Women might want to check out classes and workshops offered by Surf Diva . Another choice for all is Hike Bike Kayak Sports , which also offers guided snorkel and kayak tours (with special “peekaboo” see-through bottoms) for viewing the region’s diverse wildlife both above and below the water. (The ocean here is protected as part of the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Ecological Reserve.)
Inside tip: sunny, still days offer clearest visibility for seeing underwater life, including harmless leopard sharks (highest numbers July to mid-September).
