Mammoth Lakes: Snowshoeing Under a Full Moon

There’s no better place to get close to the stars than Mammoth Lakes.

This popular, yet pristine area is home to some of the greatest views in California, as well as some of the best winter recreation options. Head down the slopes at Mammoth Mountain, with more than 3,500 skiable acres, then bundle up for a naturalist-guided, full-moon tour at Tamarack Lodge's Cross Country Ski (and snowshoe) Center , with 19 miles of groomed trails.

You can also cruise around on a snowmobile or take a Snowcat tour, snap photos from the scenic gondola, take a dog sled ride, or take the kids snow tubing or ice skating. Outdoor sports not your thing? Mammoth Mountain is still a gorgeous and hip place to sit back, sip a latte and people watch.
