In San Francisco's Castro neighborhood, "out' is in.

Historically speaking, residents of this neighborhood have unabashedly celebrated their homosexuality, making it the "gayest" part of the city. Today, the area finds a balance somewhere between historical landmark and tourist attraction. Visit in the daytime to browse the (often racy) boutiques. After dark, cruise the bars and nightclubs or catch a flick at the refurbished movie house, the Castro Theater. The Castro has its own annual street fair in October, and (despite government efforts to the contrary) is still home to the biggest Halloween celebration in San Francisco.
