Roaring Camp Railroads, located between San Francisco and Monterey, operates two vintage railways offering visitors spectacular views of giant coastal redwood forests, lush canyons, and Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.
Celebrating its 50th year of taking visitor through the Big Trees in 2013, Roaring Camp operates 100-year-old steam locomotives that were used to transport lumber to numerous mills along the coasts of Oregon and California. Today, these iron horses transport visitors through the Big Trees on 180 acres of virgin forest in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The Santa Cruz rail line operates primarily between Spring and Fall. It carries passengers along the San Lorenzo River Gorge through Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park to the beaches of Santa Cruz. Train conductors on both railways narrate interesting information along the way about the forests, the locomotives, local history, and early California life-styles.
A visit to Roaring Camp is historic and entertaining. The town resembles a logging camp of the 1880’s complete with covered bridge, Main Street, Opera House, General Store, Marshall’s Office, Print Shop, train depot and other vintage buildings.
The natural beauty of the surrounding 180 acres, extensive picnicking and recreation facilities, historical ambiance, and special events attract thousands of tourists and locals annually to Roaring Camp for family recreation, corporate meetings, pre- and post-convention tours, and educational programs.
