Nestled in the heart of historic Balboa Park, the World Famous San Diego Zoo is a tropical paradise for all ages and a must-see in Southern California! We are home to more than 4,000 rare and fascinating animals such as giant pandas, polar bears, and koalas and a renowned botanical collection. Come discover the wonders of wildlife with up close animal encounters like giraffe feeding, guided bus tours, aerial trams, a special children’s zoo, and exciting shows. A leader in animal care and conservation, we are at the very heart of the San Diego experience.

New things are always happening at the San Diego Zoo! Our brand-new Reptile Walk features a Galapagos tortoise interactive feeding experience and a new open-air pool for our Chinese alligators, where guests can admire these unique creatures from above.  Panda Trek is home to FOUR giant pandas, including our newest panda cub celebrity born in 2012! The Australian Outback is opening in May 2013 and includes a new outdoor koala habitat for the Zoo’s two dozen koalas. The San Diego Zoo has the LARGEST colony of koalas outside of Australia, and with the new exhibit you can get even closer to these incredible animals. After you visit the koalas, head over to 7.5 acre Elephant Odyssey and see what kind of mischief our elephant herd is up to or catch the newly revised “Camp Critters” animal show at Wegeforth Bowl, where sea lions and other animals meet and greet the audience! Give your feet a break while checking out the 4-D Theater, which features a 20-minute multisensory experience. Our guided bus tours and Skyfari aerial tram also provide a great overview of the entire Zoo and neighboring Balboa Park. The newly revamped Polar Bear Plunge provides an insider view into the life of the great white bear where you will can climb aboard a research helicopter, experience what it’s like to be a seal, and see how you measure up to the one of the world’s tallest bears. There’s no shortage of animals or plants to see from polar bears to brown bears, big cats to meerkats, and everything in between. Whether you come to visit your favorite animals or take part in a Behind-the-Scenes Tour, visitors of all ages can find something to admire at the San Diego Zoo 365 days of the year. Come see what makes us World-Famous!
