Newport Landing Whale Watching provides year round whale watching cruises multiple times daily departing from Newport Beach California minutes from Los Angeles, centrally located in Orange county, and short drive from San Diego. View many different varieties of whales including giant blue whales, gray whales, finback whales, humpback whales and many more. Over 1500 whales viewed in 2012. Along with the many varieties of whales there are also several species of dolphin often encountered including the famous mega pods of common dolphin that can number over 1000 individuals or more making for amazing viewing opportunities.
Newport Bay borders on one of the largest Marine Protection Areas in southern California stretching for over 14 miles running from Newport Bay south along the entire Laguna Beach coastline. The Marine Protection Area was put in place to protect this amazing marine ecosystem. A deep underwater canyon runs close to the Newport Beach and Laguna Beach coastline and creates lots of upwelling perfect habitat for whales and dolphin as well as all sorts of other marine life. Newport Landing has been very fortunate to be located in Newport Bay next to some of the most productive whale watching waters in the world.
