Fun for the whole Family! One of the largest collections of flying World War II aircraft in three air conditioned hangers. Docents in all hangars, many flew or served on warbird crews. Informational displays line the walls of all the hangars. Tour inside a flyable B-17 and children will want to visit the Berger Youth Exploration Center. Memorabilia, uniforms and weapons round out the displays. Aviation art hangs on all the walls. Upstairs is an 8,500 volume library and flight simulators. Education programs and flight exhibitions occur between October and May. The Palm Springs Air Museum is known for its Memorial Day Flower Drop, where 3,000 red and white carnations drop onto the tarmac from a vintage warbird. Special summer activities and workshops for kids. Pets are allowed with responsible owners and must be on a leash or in a container.
Special exhibits include Banned Booty: Palm Springs Checkpoint, an art exhibit by Steve Maloney featuring all those items confiscated from passengers by the TSA during security checks after 9/11 (ends May 31, 2013) and The World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum’s Bob Hope: An American Treasure (ends April 1, 2013).
