Spread across 86 acres in Claremont, Calif., Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden is located approximately 35 miles east of Los Angeles. The Garden is an oasis of natural beauty located in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. From summer concerts to the Butterfly Pavilion to a world-class botanical library the Garden offers something for everyone.

Accredited by the American Association of Museums, Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden is a living museum and the most extensive botanic garden dedicated exclusively to California native plants. The living collection includes more than 2,800 species of plants, 280 of which are rare or endangered. Docents lead tours of the Garden periodically and guided tram tours are available the third Sunday of every month. Guidebooks and brochures are available at the admission kiosk and California Garden Gift Shop.

The Garden is laid out in three distinct areas. Indian Hill Mesa is a large flat-topped hill of dense clay soils, heavily planted with mature cultivars and wild species of native plants. Some of the most prominent species are California lilacs and manzanitas. The mesa is home to the California Courtyard, California Natives Container Garden and California Cultivar Garden—three of popular venues for social event rentals.

The East Alluvial Gardens are found at the base of the eastern edge of the Indian Hill Mesa include the Desert Garden and the Coastal Dune and California Channel Islands collections. The Tongva Village interpretive site and the Majestic Oak are both located in the Alluvial Gardens.

The northern 55 acres is home to the California Plant Communities with displays of some of RSABG’s most impressive specimens in the collection. The large serene pine groves, the spectacular California flannel bushes and distinct boojum trees are found here.

Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, founded in 1927 by Susanna Bixby Bryant, is a private, nonprofit organization. It brings conservation applications to the public through horticultural education, scientific research and sales of native plants at Grow Native Nursery.
